Sasquatch Friday - Evening Uno

Sasquatch!!  Music is such an important part of my way of life. It will always be there for me, picks me up and keeps me smiling.  Friedrich Nietzsche puts it best: "Without music, life would be a mistake.”   It's unreal how it can bring people together, especially when shared live, and this year's Sasquatch was the perfect example.  So many great times, memories, new friends, great sounds and huge hangovers. I drove down from Vancouver with my girl Alexa Butt.  One boarder, and 6 hours in the truck to good time city: the Gorge Amphitheatre, in Washington.  It wasn't until the turn-off, off the highway that we really saw traffic.  Thank goodness 5 year Sasquatch veteran Mr. Jake Price himself, guided us to skip the 4 hour car jam lineup and slipped ourselves into the VIP camping area without any wait or fuss.   There, we were greeted by an awesome crew and fimilar faces:  Jake Price, Sam Hiltner, Alex Nawrocky, Cailtin Alexander, Howard Price, Macy Price, Danger Aeron, plus a few others..   We hit a couple vodkas, filled our pockets with beers, picked up our press passes and headed into the jungle (aka the venue) with huge smiles on our faces and a great weekend ahead of us.

The number one goal was to have a blast and enjoy music.  I brought my Canon SLR and my S95 point-and-shoot into the Amphitheatre everyday.  The idea was to capture some of the bands, but more importantly capture the people, the culture, the vibe.   Lucky for me, the Price family owns Honey Bucket (port-o-potties) so we had 'box seating' to keep my oversized backpack and I was able to ditch the bricks and participate in the festivities without pulling a muscle or being completely over hauling the gear around.

Santigold, Girl Talk and Pretty Lights were the highlights of the evening.  Back at the campsite we ate, drank some more (water duhhh), and cruised around following the music and people.  Nothing but great fucking times.

Single Fin - Bali

Party times in Uluwatu, Bali.

The Bukit Peninsula is at the southern end of the island of Bali, Indonesia. It's traditionally considered to be all the area south of Jimbaran beach. Unlike the bulk of the rest of the island, it features a dry, arid and stoney landscape. Bukit means 'hill' in Indonesian, and when you’re hiking up the 500 plus stairs at Pyang-Pyang beach, you’ll know why it merited that name.  The area consists of many world-class surf breaks including Padang- Padang and Uluwatu.

Uluwatu, is beyond beautiful.  It’s an advanced surf spot with several reef breaks, and handful of restaurants and shops on the cliff that look over the breaks.  Even with a mediocre sunset, it's gorgeous.

Sunday nights have been going off here at one of the restaurants, Single Fin.  The last few weeks I've been here, a local band plays mostly reggae from sunset until 10ish, followed by DJ and Australian surfer Adam Bennetts, aka Adam &Eve (hope that's right).  Lots of Bintangs, sweaty dance floor, great music, and beautiful people.  Be sure to drop by if you’re ever in the area, it sure beats Kuta.

This was my Halloween, Bali style.

Women in Boardsports Saas-Fee / 28th September – 2nd October

Women in BoardsportsSaas-Fee / 28th  September – 2nd October By Carmela Fougsted (yesyes:)-Fleury / Les Ettes & Daniela Meyer / Popcorn

More girls and women than ever are interested in boardsports, but are boardsports companies and media currently living up to their potential to positively affect young girls and women? Or are they continuing to sell trivializing, minimizing and objectified images of women, albeit lightly powdered with "empowering" rhetoric? Using surfing as an example, we'll explore how advertising can impact females, especially young girls, and discuss the consequences of commodifying boardsports for women as "fashion" versus "a healthy and empowering activity." We'll look at the difference (if there is one) between how women and young girls are marketed and marketed to and we will also discuss sponsorship as a means to enculturate future generations. Finally, we'll break into small groups to brainstorm ideas on how to transform our respective sports then share these ideas with each other as a unified group before finishing.

Women in Boardsports welcomes this year the following speakers:

Deb Friedman- Action sports Global Brand manager from Nike 6.0 -she was the Global Director of Women's Marketing at Burton for 3 years -she is a great & inspiring public speaker http://business.transworld.net/16031/features/caught-on-tape-deb-friedman/ Anne-Flore Marxer -will be telling us about the changes she's been doing within the Women Freeride Worldtour

This Friday- All.I.CAN. World Premiere - Whistler, BC

I would hate to be making a snow video this year. The bar has been set so high with all this new technology and heli budgets. Directors Dave Mossop and Eric Crosland and the Sherpas Cinema boys are one of those few crews raising the bar time and time again. Drama. The good kind.
There new video All.I.Can, is premiering this Friday in Whistler, at the Conference Center, with most of the athletes in attendance. Kye Petersen, Mark Abma, Eric Hjorleifson, JP Auclair, James Heim, Chris Rubens, Mike Douglas, Dana Flahr, Rory Bushfield, Ian McIntosh, Lynsey Dyer, Alexis Godbout, Matty Richard, Chad Sayers and more.
All.I.Can won the award for BEST DOCUMENTARY and MOST INNOVATIVE VISUAL FX at IF3 International Freeski Film Festival in Montreal.
Check out the teaser. Come check out the premiere and enjoy the ride.

Oh and come find me on the red carpet. I've somehow become 'that' photographer. Great way to meet people doing what I love. Thanks Malcolm for the job!

About the Artist:

In our postmodern, image-driven milieu, even the most sensational scenes

can barely elicit a reaction. Yet, when the active elements of mystery and

humanity intersect, images can reach right out and touch us. It is with

passion and perception that Ashley Barker arrives at this intersection with

her photography. Formal training at the Western Academy Of Photography

and a grand sense of scale, born of her Alberta roots, inform her visual

perspective. An accomplished commercial artist at only 25, Barker's photos

are in demand with the world's foremost publishers of snowboarding, skiing

and action culture. She loves the mountains and works fervently to gain skill

and experience shooting in the alpine environment. And it is out there, far

from the manmade constructs of so-called civilization that her passion finds

expression.
